Hi,
On the web you'll find just about anything you're on the lookout for. The Net contains many millions of pages that contain information on a massive number of topics. Ever wanted to find info on a certain subject, but didn't know where or how it's possible to find it?

Search sites are important to the Web, without them it might be really tough to find the info you're looking for. What is a search website and how does it work?

A search site is a software program that searches the web-based on the words you enter in the search field. Search engines index information in a database and send out crawlers to look for new info. After a crawler finds a website, it is indexed in the database and stored under categories based on key words.

To illustrate this, a crawler may come across a website titled "Activities for Summer". The search site software will index this website under the keywords "Activities" and "Summer". Next time somebody searches for either of these keywords, this website will come up on the search results.

Have you ever typed something into a search website but failed to find what you were attempting to find? If this is the case there are one or two rules to observe when using search sites. First, try and use as few words as practicable. As we learned earlier, search sites specify websites primarily based on keywords. When performing your search try and do the same to ensure the search engine finds what you're trying to find.

If you're attempting to find something with multiple keywords, include the words "and" or "or". By adding the word "and" you are telling the search engine to find pages that include all words, and therefore narrows your search. Including the word "or" tells the search site to retrieve internet pages that contain any or both keywords.

Additionally, expand your search horizons. What does this mean? Use more than one search website to help you find what you're looking for. Many search sites exist; get to know a couple of them. This'll help you get even more effective as you learn which searches work best where. Most significantly, you may become more effective when trying to find info on the internet.
