Hi,
Backlinks can provide your website with authority and any Web marketer will tell you that. And a few years back, trading links along with various other websites was looked upon as being a terrific way to build backlinks. The question is, is this approach even now a sensible way to create links for your Internet site or has it become a thing of the past? If you want to learn if it is still a good practice, keep reading and you'll learn the answer.

So basically a backlink is a web page link that points from one site to a different site. These inbound links are viewed as votes for your website by the major search engines. So essentially the more backlinks you have pointing to your Internet site the higher your website will rank in the major search engines. However you also have to comprehend that not all backlinks are created equal. Let's just say you have a link on a Internet site that has a page rank of 3, if the backlink is on the home page of that website you'll find that it has more value than if the backlink is found on a sub page of that Internet site. You need to look at the actual page rank where your backlink is located to determine its value, but the home page rank may make a slight difference in value.

When individuals trade links with other sites normally those other sites have a different page on their site where they place the link for your site. And this reduces the quality of that link. Websites which use link pages can end up with countless other links on the same page. I am sure almost all of you already know that Google frowns upon this and generally these links don't even get counted.

Something else that many of you may already know will be that Google prefers one way links instead of link exchanges. Just so you realize, a one way link is just what it sounds like, you obtain a link from a site but it's not necessary to link back to them. Google wants to see one way backlinks and they will in addition reward your website when they see these kinds of backlinks. You might also find websites that Google has de-indexed and if you end up trading backlinks with them it is possible to hurt your own rankings. And that's the exact opposite thing you're wanting to accomplish.

The only time trading backlinks can provide benefits for you is when the web page where your backlink is has a good page rank and a large amount of traffic. There is always the danger that Google will not even index a deep page which has tons of links on it, so if your backlink ends up there, it is worthless. The issue is that most websites that trade backlinks actually have some sort of links page that doesn't get indexed. To summarize, when you can your better off creating one way links and you can find ways to accomplish this, but exchanging links is something that is going by the wayside.
