Almost every Internet user knows the value of Google, it's the most widely used search engine in the world. Many people throw up a website for different reasons and believe that is the end of it. The internet contains so much information that it would take a person several lifetimes to read a fraction of the information, it needs the best organization possible. Google, Yahoo, and Bing are the three largest search engines who are now responsible for hosting almost all internet searches and also making sure that we can find what we are searching for. Optimizing your site will not only increase the amount of visits you receive but it will also give you the skills to do the same with any other sites you decide to launch. SEO or search engine optimization is a lifesaver for those of us who don't have a huge budget to pay experts to advertise our sites for us. Sadly, the vast majority of people screw SEO up, along with their site's ranking. Stick with this article and you will become aware of some major mistakes to steer clear of when applying you SEO techniques.

Images can greatly enhance the look and feel of your site, but too many can actually damage it. Too many images and graphics means you're leaving less room for the search engine friendly content, which can reduce your overall search engine rankings. Plain text on your pages might look boring, but it has a far greater effect on your results than text showing on images. Search engines can't read text shown on images, which means you won't be benefiting with your SEO efforts at all. If you do use graphics, be sure to put your chosen keywords within the ALT attribute for each image. Search engines are able to read your ALT attributes, so having your keywords in there can assist your ranking in the long run. You should never commit the blunder of taking text that's not yours from various other sites, as that's not morally correct. If you just copied content from someone else, it's not going to do you a bit of good. It may appear as though there are no repercussions at first, but it will hurt you once someone discovers that you've stolen your content. The major reason it's not good to do this is because search engines are extremely smart nowadays and they can tell when you've used content that's been duplicated. Your site will get stuck in the duplicate content filter, which will eventually affect your ranking. That's why it's necessary to insert content that's one of a kind that readers and the search engines will both enjoy.

Another SEO error that many webmasters make is writing an irrelevant site title and a poor site description, which can both be detrimental to your search engine rankings. Search engines will look at your title and description to try and find a theme before comparing this to the text content you have within your pages and coming up with a results ranking that shows visitors how relevant your site is to what they're looking for. Compared to a few years ago, search engines and their algorithms for determining rankings have evolved, so pay attention to these elements.

So, if you want to simplify things, you can break SEO into on-page and off-page. Just practice your linking strategy, making sure you only link to relevant pages and get as many relevant links pointing to your site as you can and your site will rank higher automatically. Just make sure you're building links naturally with good amount of internal linking.
