Hi,
The world of publishing is being shaken to its very core. Newspapers, magazines and books are all under fire. How has this come about? The rising power of the Internet has completely changed the landscape, catching many traditional publishers by surprise.

Some believed that the Internet would be little more than a passing fad. They doubted that there would ever come a time when the general public would look to websites for news coverage and analysis. But it's clear that such an approach under-estimated the power of the Internet.

Twitter, blogs, Facebook and the rest have all helped to bring about these changes. They've provided the technology that allows all of us to broadcast what we want to say. If you have your own website, then you could be in a very strong position to become a publisher. But do you really want to become a digital publisher?

There are plenty of business owners who wish to maintain websites in order to sell products and services. They're not really interested in search engine optimisation and the terminology that's associated with driving more visitors to a website. They simply want to create a profitable business.

So how should they go about writing for their websites? Should they focus on what the search engines want? The danger in such an approach is that you end up with content that is hard to read. It may seem great to Google, but what will visitors to your website think about it?

This explains why the best policy is to write with your audience in mind. You can almost forget about the search engines altogether. Think about creating content that's of a high quality. You want visitors to enjoy what you have written.

If you can achieve this then you'll put yourself in a much better position. Visitors will keep returning to your website. They'll also be more inclined to purchase from you. These should be your key aims.

So keep things simple. Write about what you know and enjoy. Try to write naturally and forget about how the leading search engines will interpret your writing. That's the secret of writing great content that will really have benefits for you and your readers.
