I agree with you that Facebook and twitter both are good social media sites, but both are have very different scenarios and traffic quality.
If you want professional and mature traffic toward your website then twitter is the best option for u.
Facebook becomes more popular because there lots of applications are there which get success in attracting lot's of teenagers and rest of the crowd, there was something interesting for every type of age group person which make it different from other social media website.
