Hi,
Social media refers to a very diverse group of websites. These different types of websites exist to allow their users to do many different things. If you want to learn about some of the different types of social media sites, then keep reading.

If you have something to say, especially on a regular basis, then blogging is one of the best ways to let your thoughts be known. Certain social media sites allow their users to setup their own blog without going through all the hassle of registering a domain and getting hosting. Some of the most popular blogging websites include word-press and the suitably named blogger.

Much like blogging is micro-blogging. This enables you to publish much smaller posts. In the case of Twitter, by far the most popular social media website which offers micro-blogging, you will be limited to 140 characters with each post.

There are also social media sites aimed at networking. You can register an account if you are interested in networking with other like-minded or even drastically different people. You will have the ability to share all types of content with your connections including images, video, and text. Many of these sites, including the most popular Facebook, also offer games.

One of the next types of social media websites is aimed at users interested in multimedia. If you want to watch video, then you will likely head to You-tube which is the most popular website in this category. Flickr is also popular and allows you to share pictures as well as view pictures uploaded by other users. Another popular multimedia site for groups of users is Hulu where you can watch movies and TV shows.

Some social media sites are aimed at allowing people to create their own websites with ease. You will not have to go through the trouble of registering domains or getting a hosting account since everything will be provided by the website. You have the ability to do most things typical webmasters do as long as they abide by the terms of service for the particular site.

Finally, there are social media bookmarking sites. The users on these websites share links to good websites they happen to come across. Then other users can follow the links and see if they also like the websites. Some of these websites can generate a lot of traffic for website owners.
