Larry Page Named New CEO of Google, Again
Hi,
Google is trying to re-invent itself to some degree - or at least trying to re-capture the entrepreneurial spirit that originally drove the company to unprecedented greatness. When Google started to assert its dominance over the Internet back in the very late 90s and early 2000s, venture capitalists and others with large stakes in the company pushed hard for founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin to bring in more seasoned leadership.
Eventually, the search landed on Eric Schmidt, a man whose previous experience included top posts with Sun Microsystems and Novell, Inc. At that time, both of those companies were larger than Google, but now Google dwarfs them in size, prestige and earnings.
The move within Google appears to be one that is welcomed by everyone involved. Even with amazing growth and success through the years, the ultimate leadership team at Google has always been comprised - primarily - of Sergey Brin, Larry Page and Eric Schmidt. Those three men are the reason why Google has achieved what it has and why it is currently experiencing its most profitable period in the company's history.
Google has an estimated market valuation of $200 billion and the three heads of the company are all billionaires several times over as a result of their stock holdings with the company. Some analysts have theorized that Schmidt was more than ready to step away from the CEO role after recent criticism about his public remarks and Google's increased monitoring of the online movements of its users.
