Google is a name that almost everyone in the world knows and they should, as the world's most widely used search engine. Different people need a website for different reasons but if your intent is to find customers, clients, or gain any form of attention then you should start focusing on getting your site to rank high in Google. The internet holds more information than any other one of man's inventions, so this calls for a complex yet easy to navigate structure. This task has been accomplished by search engines; the largest of which are Google, Yahoo, and Bing. Getting your site in front of viewers all comes down to how well it is optimized. SEO, also known as search engine optimization, is ideal for people who are trying to get visitors to their site and don't want to pay outrageous prices to get them. However, many people don't really get SEO and end up doing the wrong things. There are some common mistakes that many people make so we decided discuss three of them here.

The most common blunder is neglecting on-site SEO. For something that people have complete control over; it's shocking that so many neglect it. The definition of on-site SEO can be simplified to the way you layout your site's elements and content. This is really simple, your main concerns are your ALT tags, heading tags, file names, titles, and navigational structure. You need to be sure to add your keywords to the page titles, in the navigation, and in the ALT tags. Don't skip over this part of SEO. Many of your competitors will be utilizing onsite optimization so you will have to bring out the big guns. Your website's speed matters, not only to your visitors but also to the search engines. When you have a lot of coding on your website, your page loads a lot more slowly, which isn't liked by Google. This is why you should aim to have an external CSS file, not an internal one. External CSS files can be excellent for improving your site's loading speed and can also be a more efficient way to update your site later. Search engines want to offer their users the best possible results, in terms of content, information and relevance, so your aim is to appeal to those search engines. It's important to design and create your site so it suits what your visitors want, as well as appealing to what the search engines want.

Another common SEO mistake is having a poor title and description, which will eventually result in bad search engine ranking. Search engines will look at your title and description to try and find a theme before comparing this to the text content you have within your pages and coming up with a results ranking that shows visitors how relevant your site is to what they're looking for. Search engines have expanded and evolved from just a few years ago, incorporating more complex algorithms to try and please visitors, so it's important to pay attention to the finer details. Overall, your aim with SEO should be to keep it as ethical as possible. Don't be one of those webmasters who isn't aware of the damage done to your site by using unethical methods. Don't just stuff keywords in your site or it will be viewed as spam. Similarly, having copied content will tarnish your reputation and get you in the bad books of the search engines. So, if you are going to go about SEO on your own, or you're in the market to hire someone to do it, the best SEO practices are the only ones to use.
