SEO seems simple on the surface but there are many things that you may be unaware of. SEO is powerful and if you arm yourself with even the basics, you will have a huge advantage over most other websites. From looking for solutions to their problems to finding reviews on products, people turn to the internet as a shopping resource. By ignoring search engine traffic you are missing out on thousands of prospects that you could sell to or build a list with. A good search engine optimizer is worth his weight in gold; both as an internet marketer and as a consultant. With SEO there are certain practices that you never want to apply to your site and we are going to tell you a few. Stick with us and you will be performing powerful SEO techniques that will still have you ranking, even after Google routinely updates it's search engine.

When attempting SEO, most webmasters starting out make the first mistake, which is to insert too many broad keywords into their writing. It's true that keywords are a crucial aspect of search engine optimization, but if you just use a bunch of them the search engines may give you penalties as they will consider your site spam. You'll lose your ranking due to the over abundance of the keywords on your site, which means you'll lose the traffic too. Readers aren't going to like that very much, as they're searching for clear, useful information.

The wrong keywords can bring you the wrong type of traffic. If you don't research your keywords well enough and don't have a strong keyword list, it spoils your optimization efforts. The traffic you get isn't much targeted, which means it doesn't convert and give results. Apart from that, choosing keywords that people aren't searching for doesn't really make sense. Understanding how to do keyword research correctly will greatly increase your chance of success with SEO. All you need to do is find keywords that are being searched for and give preference to ones with less competition. Keyword research isn't hard but can be time-consuming, however; it is necessary.

Now, probably the most important part of effective SEO is getting incoming links but get too many at once because your site will be penalized for spamming. When a person launches a website, he/she reads that creating thousands of links will get you on the first page of Google. Methods like these used to work but they are now dead. Plain and simple, if you have a brand new site and it get hundreds or thousands of links pointing to it right away then Google will sandbox your site and de-index it. So if you don't want your site to disappear from the search engines, build links naturally but consistently.

See, SEO isn't as complicated as it seems, just stick to the basics and you will be doing better than most. The more you practice optimizing your site, the better results you will get. Strategic internal linking helps more than people realize so don't forget about improving it.
